Russia arrests Wall Street Journal reporter for alleged spying.
U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy visited reporter Evan Gershkovich in Moscow’s Lefortovo detention center. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested Gershkovich two weeks ago for an alleged account of espionage. This is the first time an American reporter has been arrested for espionage in Russia since 1986.
The Kremlin says that the Wall Street Journal reporter was “caught red-handed,” but has not published any evidence to support this claim. The White House said that Gershkovich’s imprisonment “ridiculous,” and President Joe Biden called his arrest “totally illegal.”
“This is the first time we’ve had consular access to Evan since his wrongful detention over two weeks ago,” Ambassador Tracy stated. “He feels well and is holding up. We reiterate our call for Evan’s immediate release.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary of State Blinken to seek God’s wisdom regarding U.S. citizens imprisoned in other countries.
- For the president and his foreign advisers as hostile nations continue to take aggressive action.
- For Americans who are being illegally detained in foreign lands.
